I wrote an email to the HR dept. asking if they hired illegal immigrants and they responded that they hire many "falsely documented workers" and are not interested in validating the citenzenship of their employees.

This company is known through the business as hiring illegals and they make no bones about it. What we really need to do is boycott these folks. Made in America with illegals isn't the same as made in America. In fact the person who owns this company even has a video telling folks he doesn't care if his employees are legal or not.

On Friday, April 28th I heard the owner of American Apparel Mr. Charney interviewed on NPR (national public radio) saying he supports the Monday Boycott and that he is giving all of his employees the day off. He says they "check documents according to law" but "legal or illegal" it's all the same to him. In the interview other persons spoke saying they worked for the company and that they did so illegally.

On April 29, 2006 while listening to the radio, a man identifying himself I think as the manager of American Apparel said he whole heartedly supports the immigration issue. (The radio played HIS voice in an interview, so we were getting it straight from the horses mouth!) He also said they complied with documentation as required by federal law. NO MORE, no less. He openly admitted there are many foreigners working in his company. They make up about 2/3 of the entire company. He proudly hires them. He stated all the extras he provides, like a 10 minute group syncronized stretch break in the middle of the day, and full time message people that roam the sewing floors all day in all sections. That his company is proudly known to be sweat-shop free. And that the hire checking only the minimum as required by law, and acknowledges that a lot of paperwork is false. That he himself is an immagrant (from Canada) and that the foreigners have his FULL support of both him and the company! And that the products that the undocumented workers provide "that may or may not be illegal" (is he serious???? may or may not?!) that the services that they provide are a big boom to america and americans.
